Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to find, offer and share a ride on Komüte, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or other assistive technology.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard used by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and most accessibility laws.
Where we are today
Komüte is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA: most of the site meets the standard, but some parts don't yet. In October 2026 we reviewed the site and made these changes:
- Every button, toggle and choice on the site works with a keyboard, not just a mouse.
- Every form field has a label that screen readers announce.
- Buttons that show only an icon have a name a screen reader can read.
- Pop-up windows keep keyboard focus inside them, close with Escape, and return you to where you were.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off its animations, including the confetti after you post a ride.
- Text that was too light to read easily is darker.
Known limitations
- Maps. The route maps can't be used with a keyboard or screen reader. Every ride page also gives the start, destination and stops as text.
- Driver verification. Verifying as a driver needs a photo of your licence and a selfie taken with a camera. If you can't complete this step, contact us and we'll work with you.
- Testing. We have checked the site against WCAG ourselves, but have not yet tested it with people who use assistive technology every day. We plan to.
Tell us about a problem
If something on Komüte is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email support@komute.net or use our contact form. Tell us the page and what happened, and we'll reply and help you complete what you were trying to do.
